Welcome to the inaugural post of my new political/events of the day blog! After living under a rock for the past several years in Alaska, focusing on college coursework and ignoring many down south events, I have found my reintroduction to the lower 48 states to be somewhat jarring. I consider myself to be an opinionated and intellectually involved citizen when it comes to national political affairs. I always vote, I follow developing situations with interest. What I feel like now though, is that I am imbibing or inhaling a healthy dose of horse pills on a daily basis.
The "news" channels across the board present a blended mix of entertainment, and over analysis of the personal lives of public figures. There is very little left that could pass for actual news or be deserving of the word journalism.
I find that a large majority of the people I talk to gladly participate in the meaningless divide of red state/blue state politics. Individual thought is a fast shrinking commodity, surpassed only by the death of common sense.
The result? I find myself re-engaged and double time. So many things I read or see on a daily basis set me reeling, with a desire to respond. This blog shall be the outlet for that response, and then we'll play it by ear. I foresee then that this might start out with more reactions to what other people have written, rather than my pure and original prose to happenings... but who knows... Welcome!
